About

Many thanks to the Buchanan County Community Foundation & the Community Foundation of NE Iowa for the two grants awarded to Operation 11th Hour.

Honoring All Veterans

On the 11th hour of the 11th day of the 11th month, THE GUNS FELL SILENT AND NOT ALL CAME HOME.

The war to end all wars, World War I, ended at 11a.m. on November 11, 1918. November 11th was established as Armistice Day and later named Veteran's Day to recognize the valor and sacrifice of those who served our country.

Any veteran, not just from Buchanan County,  may be recognized with the purchase of a paver or bench.

The memorial is located on the front lawn of the Buchanan County Courthouse, 210 5th Ave. NE, Independence, Iowa 50644.

Benches and pavers may be purchased to memorialize veterans.
